Metaventures

Metaventures (Player Shops)

A Metaventure is a player-run shop inside Upland. Open one to sell UGC items, vehicles, ornaments, or seeds — and earn UPX or USD from other Architects.

Finding a Metaventure

Metaventure Shops & Showrooms are easily identified in Upland. Just look for orange dots on the map.

Types of Metaventures

  • Showrooms. Sell UGC structures, vehicles, ornaments, and decor.
  • Factories. Manufacture map assets using SPARKLET. Sell to other Architects.
  • Nurseries. Generate and sell seeds. SPARKLET powers seed generation.
  • Speedways. Host races and earn from race fees.
  • Specialist shops. Themed shops aligned to a creator brand.

How to start one

  1. Own a compatible property (Uplander status or above).
  2. Buy the Metaventure type from the Upland Store.
  3. Submit a Metaventure application through City Hall.
  4. Once approved, build and stock your shop.

Only one Metaventure can exist per property. Plan your builds accordingly.

Branding and Customizability

Background

Metaventure owners can customize their shops with their branding. Two primary ways to do this are to add a store banner and a store background.

Customizable branding is an important feature for Metaventures, allowing brands to differentiate themselves from the competition.

Metaventure Homepage

Owners can also customize a shop description that appears in their Metaventure lobby. This can include HTML links to their website, blog, or social media.

In their Metaventure, owners can list their items for sale, price them and decide if they will allow sub-merchants:

Sub-merchants

Some Metaventure types support sub-merchants — other Architects who can sell their items through your shop in exchange for a revenue share. Builds a creator economy on top of your shop. Sub-merchants are covered in the Create & Community section.

Marketplace Fees

As with all other transactions in Upland, each sale or purchase will be subject to a 5% marketplace transaction fee paid by the buyer. Because Metaventure owners are subject to Venture Dues (and sub-merchants are subject to commission fees), only the buyer pays the 5% fee vs. the standard 10% marketplace fee.

Venture Dues

As a part of Upland's economy, which is modeled after real economics and commerce, Metaventure entrepreneurs pay dues based on the performance and volume of each Metaventure type in a specific locale. Owners will pay a % of the median contribution to the community pool made by Metaventures of the same type in the same locale.

The Ventures Dues model will adjust on the basis of each Metaventure-type; meaning different Metaventure-types will have a different fee structure that is determined based on the attributes of each locale and its inventory supply.

Venture Dues are incurred pro-rata dependent upon the time at which the Metaventure is opened. Meaning that players will only start incurring fees for the remainder of the month in which they begin operations.

Metaventure owners receive an in-game notification when it's time to submit their Venture Dues. If a Metaventure owner doesn't pay their dues, their business may be closed down.

Factories

Similar to the real world, assets like structures or cars in Upland require time to build and produce. In Upland, cars production has been happening at the MV Motors Plant, for example. Player-owned Factories produce 3D items such as Map Assets and Structure Ornaments. ‍

All Uplanders can build a Factory on their property as long as they meet the requirements. Uplanders will be able to use Factories to produce goods for their own Metaventure or for other Metaventures run by other Uplanders. Factory owners may also wish to leverage their existing Factories to trade with other Uplanders who are eager to start production immediately, rather than wait for a Factory to be built. The decision is yours.

‍Keep in mind that storage capacity is relative to the size of the property. A bigger location will allow for greater capacity of item storage. During production, when a property is full, Factories will not produce any more items until the existing inventory has been manually moved to other properties. When space allows, production will continue.

Building a Factory

Step 1: Go to your property and open the build menu. Then “Small Factory I” (or another Factory size if desired).

Step 2: Position the Factory on your lot per usual. Make sure this is placed in a corner or away from the center of the property to allow for the maximum space to draw your inventory lot in the next step.

Step 3: Confirm positioning and placement of the Factory

Step 4: Position your Inventory Lot by dragging the green area to your desired location. Re-size and re-shape the Inventory Lot by using the four arrows. You can also use the icons on the right side of the screen to adjust the Inventory Lot lines.

Step 5: Confirm Inventory Lot position and sizing. When confirmed, you’ll see how much UP^2 there will be within your Inventory Lot. The Inventory Lot cannot be modified after confirmation. If the Factory is demolished and rebuilt, a new Inventory Lot can be drawn.

Step 6: After confirming the Inventory Lot size and location, stake Spark and start construction!
