Plant the Future: Seed Generation Now Live in Upland!

Upland just took a bold new step forward. Seed Generation is now live! With this launch, Sparklet spending is officially live in-game for the first time, introducing a major economic mechanic that will underpin many future features.

The first batch of approved nurseries is now coming online, some are already active and ready for seed generation, with others going live over the next few hours. If you don’t have a nursery and want one, make sure to apply at any City Hall in the city where your nursery would be located. (See our previous post for application details.)

While you can’t yet plant seeds, this update establishes the foundation that will enable it all.

How Seed Generation Works

Players can now visit any Nursery Metaventure property with a Totem to generate seeds. These seeds can be traded or sold at any nursery, with or without a Totem.

To generate a seed:

  • Visit a nursery property with a Metaventure.
  • Click Store, then Generate Seed.
  • View the available seeds and their rarities.
  • Confirm your Sparklet spend.
  • The seed will appear shortly in your Assets > Seeds section.

This is strictly a seed-generation phase, planting, growth, and property interactions will come in later stages of the LIFE rollout.

Since seed generation is unlimited, there’s no need to hoard seeds at this time. The focus now is on getting Sparklet Spend live in the ecosystem. While future stress test events may offer seed generation incentives, there’s no urgency to act immediately.

Available Seeds

At launch, players can generate 17 different seed types, split across three plant categories:

Trees

  • Maple
  • Oil Palm
  • Pine
  • Magnolia
  • Weeping Willow

Shrubs

  • Boxwood
  • Arborvitae
  • Lawn Grass

Flowers

  • Red Rose
  • Pink Rose
  • White Rose
  • Yellow Rose
  • Red Tulip
  • White Tulip
  • Purple Tulip
  • Orange Daisy
  • Lavender
  • Sunflower (Exclusive to the Sunflower Nursery)

Each category, trees, shrubs, and flowers, has been carefully balanced, giving players an equal chance of generating any plant type at all nurseries. However, not all seeds are equally easy to find. Let’s take a closer look at how rarity plays into what you might generate.

Seed Rarity

Seed rarity depends on both scarcity and climate compatibility. For example, Lawn Grass is available in all zones, while Ultra Rare seeds like the White Rose and Purple Tulip are difficult to obtain anywhere. Seed rarities include:

  • Standard
  • Limited
  • Rare
  • Ultra Rare

Players can view the specific rarity breakdown of available seeds at any nursery before generating. These rarity levels, combined with a city’s climate zone, influence what seeds are most likely to generate.

Climate Zones

Upland cities are divided into three climate zones, which influence the probability of generating certain seeds:

  1. Cold Zone — Best for cool-climate evergreens and flowers like Roses and Tulips.
Cities include: New York, Chicago, Detroit, London, Park City, and more.

2. Mild Zone — A balanced zone with strong access to all plant types, especially shrubs.
Cities include: San Francisco, Tokyo, Lisbon, Paris, Sydney, and more.

3. Hot Zone — Ideal for heat-loving plants like Oil Palm, Orange Daisy, and Lavender.
Cities include: Miami, Las Vegas, Dallas, Hong Kong, Madrid, and more.

Demand‑Based Sparklet Pricing

Seed Generation introduces a dynamic pricing system tied directly to Sparklet spend. Pricing adjusts based on how many players are generating seeds at any given time. There is no supply cap, and prices fluctuate in response to system activity:

  • Prices recalculate hourly
  • More demand = price increases
  • Less demand = price decreases gradually
  • Price changes are capped to prevent large swings

Sparklet and Protem

To support the launch of Seed Generation and future Sparklet-based mechanics, in the coming days, small Sparklet bundles will become permanently available in the UPX store tab. Protem will also be available on a semi-permanent basis, offered in larger quantities and bundled with UPX to give players greater flexibility as they prepare for upcoming features.

Weekly Sparklet drops will continue as usual, while these new bundles provide a low-cost, accessible way for new and returning players to begin engaging with Sparklet and the systems it powers.

This is Just the Beginning

With Seed Generation, Sparklet spend is now live in Upland, marking the start of a new gameplay layer where players begin using Sparklet as a core mechanic. This release doesn’t just introduce seeds; it activates the economic foundation that future systems like Uppie evolution and the LIFE feature will build upon.

While planting and growing will come later with LIFE, and evolution features will use seeds in different ways, it all begins here, with the act of generating. Whether you’re testing the rarity pool, setting up for future features, or simply exploring how Sparklet spend fits into Upland’s economy, this phase is about laying the groundwork.

It starts with a seed. The rest is up to you.
