Sparklet Spend Launches Next Week: Real Utility, Real Gameplay, Real Impact

The Sparklet economy is evolving, and it starts next week!

We’re excited to launch Seed Generation, the first feature in Upland’s long-anticipated Sparklet Spend system. For the first time, players will be able to spend Sparklet to generate in-game items, beginning with Seeds.

Up until now, Sparklet has only been used for staking. With this launch, Sparklet becomes a spendable gameplay currency, marking a major leap forward in its purpose, utility, and impact across the Upland economy.

Why Sparklet Spend Matters

Sparklet Spend delivers on a key part of the Sparklet white paper, introducing spend functionality alongside staking, and unlocking Sparklet’s role in driving gameplay, progression, and long-term utility.

With Seed Generation, Sparklet is permanently spent and leaves your inventory for good. This marks the first time Sparklet is not just staked, but used. Every spend is a meaningful, strategic choice that shapes your progression and the broader economy.

Sparklet Spend is being introduced through Seed Generation, but its release also sets the stage for upcoming features like Uppie Evolution, where Sparklet will be needed to level up Uppies. These systems will become a core part of Upland’s long-term gameplay. Read more about that here.

Sparklet is no longer just about building, it now powers progression, scarcity, and strategy.

How Sparklet Spend Works

Sparklet Spend is a new system that allows players to permanently spend Sparklet from their inventory to unlock gameplay features and progression. Unlike staking, which temporarily allocates Sparklet for construction, Sparklet Spend removes Sparklet from your control entirely, introducing meaningful decision-making tied to resource use.

The first use of this system is Seed Generation, but Sparklet Spend will also power upcoming features like Uppie Evolution, where players combine two lower-level Uppies into a higher-level one.

Pricing: Demand vs. Supply

Sparklet Spend is designed to create dynamic gameplay economies. Each mechanic that uses Sparklet Spend will follow pricing rules, but those rules will vary based on how each feature is structured:

Seed Generation is demand-based only

Pricing adjusts based on how many players are generating seeds at any given time. There is no supply cap, and prices fluctuate in response to system activity:

  • Prices recalculate hourly
  • More demand = price increases
  • Less demand = price decreases gradually
  • Price changes are capped to prevent large swings

Uppie Evolution will be both demand- and supply-based

In addition to demand, the availability of supply (lower-level Uppies needed for merging) will also influence the price of evolving. This creates a more complex economy where both player behavior and item availability shape Sparklet costs.

No Need to Hoard Seeds

There’s no limit on how many seeds can be generated, but seed planting won’t arrive until after Uppie Evolution and other systems are live. So while players are welcome to generate seeds, there’s no gameplay advantage to hoarding them right now.

This phase is about getting Sparklet Spend into the hands of players, testing the system in the live game, and laying the foundation for more advanced mechanics coming soon.

Apply Now: Nursery Metaventures Open

Seed Generation launches next week, and we’re now accepting Nursery Metaventure applications. (Opens on Dec 4th at 9 AM PT)

All Nurseries will be able to sell seeds, but only those with Totems can generate them. Any player can generate seeds by visiting a Nursery with a Totem, but we expect Nursery owners to be the primary seed generators and sellers in the early stages of this system.

Metaventure owners with Totems on their Nurseries will receive a monthly UPX payout equal to 5% of the Sparklet value from seeds generated by other players at their Nursery. Seeds generated by the owners themselves are excluded from this payout.

If you’ve built a Nursery, head to any City Hall in Upland to apply for Metaventure status.

Only fully completed Nurseries will be reviewed, incomplete builds will be automatically denied. Applications are open now, with reviews and approvals starting this week, and the first approved Metaventures will go live alongside Seed Generation, so apply today to be ready on day one.

Get Ready for Sparklet Spend

Sparklet Spend marks the beginning of something much bigger. With Seed Generation launching next week, players will take the first step toward a deeper, more interactive Upland economy, powered by Sparklet.

Whether you’re applying for a Nursery Metaventure or planning your next move, now’s the time to prepare!
