Roads, Weather, and a Whole New Look: Upland’s Visual Upgrades Begin

It’s been only a few weeks since residents first went live in Upland and, unsurprisingly, the Uppies are already talking. A theoryhas begun circulating among them that things feel… a bit too perfect. Some whisper they may be living in a simulation. After all, the sky always seems set to night, the water lies flat and still, boats never arrive, and only select cities are open to live in, visit, or explore.

They’ve even pointed out that the world feels like it wascreated in 2019.

While we won’t comment on that last part, we can say this: anaesthetic upgrade is coming to Upland, and it’s going to reshape the way residents experience their neighborhoods.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll begin to see several visual improvements roll out across Upland.

Refined Property Colors

We’re updating how properties appear in Upland to bring a more polished, immersive look to the map. While the core colors you’re familiar with, green for properties on sale, for example, are staying the same, they’ll now appear less bright, with a more balanced tone that better fits the evolving aesthetic of Upland.

In addition, fully colored blue properties will be removed. Instead, owned properties will now be outlined in blue, providing a cleaner visual cue for ownership that integrates more naturally with the map.

These changes enhance the overall city view, improve decor cohesion, and help give Upland a more modern and consistent feel.

Enhanced Property Textures

All properties will soon gain a subtle material texture. This small touch goes a long way in giving the world more dimension and making Upland feel richer and more grounded.

Roads Arrive

Roads are being added across all opened cities, giving each location a more realistic and readable layout. With the updated color palette, roads visually pop in a way that highlights city structure and provides contrast against properties, something the world has been missing until now.

Weather & Atmosphere

Players using POV mode will start noticing atmospheric haze along the distant horizon. This effect adds a genuine sense of depth and distance, helping the world feel larger and more alive.

We’re also excited to share that weather effects are in development and will be coming soon. These will begin as global effects, when it rains, it will rain everywhere, which introduces a world theme and seasonal variety the Uplander community has never experienced before. We expect this feature may stir even more conversation among Uppies… and might add fuel to their simulation theory.

(But let’s not encourage that. We’re not sure they’re ready for the truth.)

Stay Tuned

Stay tuned as these upgrades roll out over the course of the Wonderland season (Dec 1- Jan 15th). Each improvement helps us move forward in enhancing Upland, one step at a time, and we can’t wait for residents to experience the world with fresh eyes.
