Plant More, Pet Less: A Big Update for Life in Upland
July 07, 2026

Today, we want to take a moment to talk about petting, Uppies, and the steps we’re taking as we continue building toward the future of Life in Upland.
Our goal is simple: we want to see as much Life across Upland as possible. More plants, more decorated properties, more dynamic neighborhoods, and more ways for players to bring their properties to life.
We’ve already seen a huge increase in decoration and Life throughout Upland, and the world feels more alive and more dynamic than ever before. As we prepare for the next stage of Life, we’re also continuing to expand the role Uppies will play across Upland. Plant-care automation is one part of that future, but it is not the only one. More Uppie utility tied to automation is also in development, and we’ll be sharing more details on those upcoming abilities soon.
For now, we want to address one important part of the current Life experience: plant petting requirements.
As we’ve reviewed the data and watched how players are interacting with plants, one thing has become clear. Until Uppie automation is available, the current plant petting requirements are too demanding.
Because of that, we are temporarily reducing plant petting requirements by 3x. This reduction is LIVE NOW.
Feeding requirements remain unchanged. This temporary reduction only applies to petting plants.
That means plants will still require care, but far less often than before. For example, if a plant previously needed to be petted once every day, it will now only need to be petted once every three days. If a plant previously needed care once every three days, it will now only need care once every nine days.
This change is temporary and is intended to make plant care more manageable while we continue developing the ability for players to assign Uppies to properties. Once that feature is live, players will be able to take Level 3 Uppies and higher and assign them to a property, where they will automatically help care for the plants on that property.
Uppies and Life
For those who may have missed our previous announcements, Uppies are becoming an important part of Upland’s automation future.
In the future, players will be able to assign a Level 3 or higher Uppie to a property. Once assigned, that Uppie will automatically handle petting for the plants on that property.
This means that any property with an assigned Uppie will be able to maintain a high wellbeing score without the player manually petting those plants.
A few important details:
- All eligible Uppies will provide the same plant-care benefit. A Level 8 Uppie will not provide better plant care than a Level 3 Uppie.
- Your Uppie will act as a permanent caretaker for Life on that property by handling petting. You will still need to feed your plants yourself.
First, players will be able to assign Uppies to a property to automatically handle plant petting on that property. Later, once 3D movement is introduced, assigned Uppies will also appear in 3D on the map.

This creates another way for players to decide how hands-on they want to be. Players who enjoy manually managing plant care can continue doing so. Players who want to optimize a key property with less daily petting can assign an Uppie and focus their attention elsewhere.
And again, Uppie plant-care automation is just one part of what’s ahead. We’re also working on additional Uppie abilities tied to automation and utility, and we’re excited to share more in the coming weeks.
Looking Ahead
This temporary reduction is designed to make Life easier to enjoy right now while we continue building toward the next phase of the system.
Petting still matters. Wellbeing still matters. Troves are still tied to deeper engagement. But until Uppies can be assigned to properties, plant petting will require less frequent upkeep.
So plant more, decorate more, experiment with different care strategies, and keep bringing Life to Upland.
More Life is coming. More Uppie utility is coming. More automation is coming. Stay tuned!
