Phase One of Map Asset Collision Is Now Live in Upland

Genesis Week is full steam ahead, and we’re excited to announce a major step forward for property customization in Upland: Phase One of Map Asset Collision is now live.

This update gives players a new level of creative control when designing their properties. With Map Asset Collision, select placement boundaries have been removed, allowing all assets to be layered, overlapped, placed closer together, or positioned in ways that were not possible before. The result is more flexibility, more detail, and more room for players to turn their properties into truly personalized spaces.

In Phase One, everything can now collide with plants, and all map assets can now be placed on grass. That means players can place assets on top of or intersecting with plants and grass, opening up new possibilities for lawns, gardens, yards, parks, and outdoor builds. Whether you’re creating a cleaner landscape, a more natural-looking garden, or a more detailed decorative layout, this update makes property design feel more open and expressive.

Please note: plants still do not collide with other plants in Phase One, so players cannot place trees, flowers, or other plant assets on top of grass or other plant-based assets yet.

Plants can also now be placed right up against buildings, making it easier to create polished landscaping around homes and structures. This removes previous spacing limitations and gives players more control over the small details that help a property feel complete.

This is a major moment for property customization in Upland. To be clear, Phase One does not yet allow map assets to be placed on top of other map assets, so items like cars cannot be placed on driveways, stone, or similar assets just yet. That functionality is coming in Phase Two, which is already in development and will expand collision support so map assets can stack and interact with each other, not just with plants. Full steam ahead!

First Map Assets Now Available for UPX

To help players take advantage of Map Asset Collision right away, we’re also bringing our first map assets directly into the new Upland Store layout.

We want to be clear: this is not about replacing or competing with player-made map assets. Player-created assets remain a huge part of Upland’s customization ecosystem. Our goal with this first store drop is to make decorating easier to start, especially for new players who want a simple, affordable way to begin customizing their properties.

By making a small selection of map assets available for UPX in the store, we’re lowering the barrier to entry and helping more players experience what property decorating can be. As more players begin designing their spaces, we believe it will create even more interest in unique, creative, and player-made map assets across Upland.

This first store drop is just one step in a larger effort. Over time, we’ll continue adding select assets to the store while also improving the tools and marketplace experience that make it easier and more accessible for players to create, sell, discover, and use player-made map assets. See our announcement on future marketplace changes here.

The first map assets are will be live at 9 AM PT in the store, with no registration required, and include:

This update is about giving players more freedom to design, more accessible ways to start decorating, and a stronger foundation for the future of map assets in Upland. Whether you’re experimenting with plants, building out a lawn, adding detail to a garden, or picking up your first store assets for UPX, there are now more ways to make your properties feel personal and unique.

And this is only the beginning. Phase Two of Collision is already in development, more store assets will be added over time, and we’re continuing to develop improvements that support player-made assets, the secondary marketplace, and the broader decorating ecosystem.
