The Thrifty Trader Contest
Starting this Saturday, July 31st, at 9:00 AM PT we will be hosting a new type of contest in Upland! Players will compete by selling properties (Fiat or UPX) throughout the weekend in an attempt to make the best trades possible. Submissions will close on Sunday, August 1st, at 11:59 PM PT and winners will be announced on Monday. Each player will be scored based on a few core metrics:
- Profit Margin: % value of the difference in purchase/last sale price
- Trading Volume: Volume of trades executed during the weekend
- Trading diversity: Number of unique players the seller is trading with
-
Note: Only players on the Selling side will be scored for this contest. Players will earn no points for making a savvy purchase and property swaps will not count.
Each stat will influence every player’s overall Efficiency Value for the weekend. The players with the top scores will win 1 of 5 Oakland Libraries UR Properties! Additionally, 2 more Oakland Library props will be given away to players who participate in the contest.
Please take note that this new contest is highly experimental and is intended to test how we can optimize this type of event for the future!

The Paramount Theatre Reverse Auction
Similar to the Bakersfield Land Rush, there will be 4 concurrent reverse auctions. The primary auction will be the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, while the remaining auctions will be Oakland Libraries Ultra-Rare collection properties. Auctions are set to take place starting tomorrow, Saturday, July 31st, at 12:00 PM PT.
Paramount Theatre Fun Facts
- The Paramount Theatre was designed by renowned architect Timothy L. Pflueger and was originally built in 1931.
- The organ inside the Paramount was built by Wurlitzer and features a four-manual, twenty-rank model called the Publix I, which cost a whopping $20,000 in 1931.
- After decades of neglect, the Paramount Theatre was renovated in 1973 to restore it to its former glory.
Price Analysis
Located at 2025 BROADWAY in Oakland, California, the Paramount Theatre Tower is a modest 389 UP2. The Paramount Theatre is featured in a wide array of collections such as the Rare “Downtown” collection, the Rare “Historical Oakland” collection, and the Exclusive “Broadway” collection. These collections carry 2.33x, 2.52x, and 2.25x boosts respectively. The original minting price for this property would have been 431,790 UPX if it were not a Landmark.
We estimate the premium for this landmark to be around 300%, which makes for a minimum suggested mint price of 1,727,160 UPX. The current starting point for this landmark will be 15,000,000 UPX, from which we will work our way down to the suggested mint price.
Price Reduction Schedule
Oakland Libraries Ultra-Rare Sale
In addition to these events, 8 Oakland Libraries Ultra-Rare properties will be available for purchase in the Upland store. These properties will be broken into 4 tiers based on mint values. Details below.
As a reminder, players are purchasing the UPX required to mint these properties. Once the UPX is purchased, the property will be reserved for the buyer who will be free to mint it after their purchase. Players may occasionally have UPX leftover after the property is minted as the minting price is not always a round number.
Thank you all for joining us for the Oakland Land Rush!
