Grass Moves to the Store & Sod Arrives with a Burn Event!

Editor’s Note: We’ve updated the wording for clarity: players will receive 425 UPX for each Grass Seed Pack burned during the event.

Next week we’re making the biggest change to grass since seeds launched. Grass is moving out of nurseries and into the store at a price built for everyone, we’re introducing sod for instant lawns, and before any of it goes live, we’re running a burn event that pays every grass seed holder above today’s market. Here’s the quick rundown:

• Starting August 3rd, grass seeds will no longer be generated in nurseries
• Grass seeds are moving from nurseries to the Upland store, priced at 75 UPX per seed
• Sod is here: a brand new way to get a fully grown lawn instantly, no waiting
• Burn event, Aug 3rd to Aug 10th: burn any grass seed pack to receive 425 UPX each, above today’s market floor
• Every player who burns at least one pack earns the Fresh Cut Badge, available only during this event, then gone for good

Why grass is moving

Grass was designed to be the most common seed in Upland and the easiest way to decorate your property. Right now it’s trading at 350–400 UPX for a single square. That’s not what the foundation of every property should cost, so we’re fixing it, items meant for everyone should be priced and available for everyone.

Grass is the only plant making this move. We don’t foresee any other seeds leaving nurseries. Trees, flowers, and everything else stay in nurseries where rarity belongs. And we expect accessible grass to grow the whole system: more players starting lawns means more players discovering planting, and more players heading to nurseries for everything else.

The New Line Up

Starting Monday, August 10 at 9am PT, the store will carry:

• Grass Seed Pack: 1 seed, 75 UPX
• Lawn Starter Pack: 4 seeds, 275 UPX
• Yard Builder Pack: 16 seeds, 1,000 UPX
• 2x2 Sod Twin Pack: 2 fully mature 2x2 patches, $1
• 4x4 Sod Twin Pack: 2 fully mature 4x4 patches, $3

What’s sod?

Sod is fully grown grass, ready the moment you place it.

But it’s more than that: sod comes in larger patches you place as one piece, covering a 2x2 or 4x4 area in a single placement instead of planting seeds square by square.

Seeds are the value option: plant them one at a time, grow them, watch your lawn come in. Sod is the convenience option: one placement, instant finished lawn. Same grass, two ways to get there.

The Burn Event

We recognize that players holding grass seed packs generated with Sparklet could have been selling them, so we’re compensating those players before the store opens.

From Monday, August 3rd at 9am PT to Monday, August 10th at 9am PT, burn any grass seed pack to receive 425 UPX each.

For reference: at the time of this announcement, the marketplace floor for a grass seed pack is 350–400 UPX. The burn pays above today’s market and more than five times the new store price. If you’re holding grass seeds, this is the window to cash out on top.

The Fresh Cut Badge

Burn at least one grass seed pack during the event and you earn the Fresh Cut Badge, a permanent badge available only during this event. Once the burn closes, it’s gone for good.

Burn payouts are processed after the event closes. All UPX will be dropped to your account within 48 hours of the event closing, alongside your Fresh Cut Badge. Your burns are tracked from the moment you make them, so burn any time during the window and your full payout arrives on payout day. Players can track their burns on a leaderboard that is now live here.

The Bigger Picture

Every change here points in the same direction: the things that should be common in Upland are becoming truly accessible, and the things that should be rare stay special. Grass at 75 UPX means every player can lay down a lawn on day one. Sod means finishing it takes seconds instead of days. And nurseries stay the home of the hunt, where trees, flowers, and the rarest seeds are still earned, not bought.

We think lawns are about to become one of the most common sights in Upland, and that’s exactly the point. More green on the streets, more players planting, more neighborhoods that look lived-in.

So burn your seeds, claim your Fresh Cut Badge, and set a reminder for August 10. Upland is about to get a fresh cut of grass!
