Upland is hosting a hackathon that brings the Super App to life. We believe that Web3 gaming has the potential to transform the way we play, interact, and socialize, and we want to empower participants to create games and experiences that are truly unique, immersive, and community-driven, not to mention super engaging.  In partnership with Antelope, Upland will bring together a diverse group of passionate developers, artists, blockchain enthusiasts, and gamers, to unleash their creativity and build the most fun, innovative, and engaging Web3 games.

Our goal is to provide developers with the tools, support, and inspiration to build innovative games and experiences for the Upland metaverse, no prior blockchain development experience is needed! Utilizing our simple Rest API’s, developers of all skill levels can put themselves on the Upland Map!  Whether you're an experienced developer, a talented artist, or a gamer with a great idea, we welcome you to build in the Super App ecosystem.

This year, we are proud to introduce three unique tracks for the Upland 2023 Metaverse Super App Hackathon. Each track is designed to bring out the best in passionate developers, designers, artists, gamers, and blockchain enthusiasts.

Hackathon Challenge

By focusing on the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023TM, we aim to contribute to the promotion and development of gender equality and inclusion in sports - and esports. This hackathon provides a unique opportunity for collaboration, learning, and developing games and experiences utilizing Upland Legits, and Upland’s 3rd Party SDK. The mission of your project is to showcase the potential of Web3 gaming and inspire others to get involved in this exciting space. Whether you want to build a soccer game with your own twist or a gamified experience leveraging FIFA Legits and Upland assets, this is your chance to push the boundaries of what's possible and showcase your skills and creativity. The winning project will be featured in the FIFA World Cup Village in Upland.

INNOVATION TRACK

In Upland and in Web3, the community is at the heart of everything we do. For the Innovation Track, we invite you to explore your own ideas and build community-focused Web3 games and experiences that bring people together to share value, time, information, play and experiences. We believe that strong community values encourage strong engagement and retention of users that see the value in connection. In partnership with Antelope,an open framework for building fast, secure, and user-friendly Web3 products and services,  this track offers the most flexibility and allows you to experiment, innovate, and take risks as you build games and experiences that have the potential to transform the gaming world and create new communities.
The mission for the teams is to build an experience whose success is defined by its ability to retain users for the long-term.  Mechanics of the app need to be built by leveraging elements of the Upland economy, and also by focusing on user engagement, user retention, interaction with others, and a referral program to bring new friends in over the long term.

DESIGN TRACK

We invite you to showcase your design skills and build innovative and visually stunning Web3 models that can be used in the Upland metaverse. This is the creator community’s chance to create 3D assets that are not only fun and engaging but also beautiful and memorable. For the 2023 Upland Design challenge, we invite you to design the trophy for the World of Football eSports tournament.  World of Football is an Upland game where users can play football against each other using their unique Block Explorers.  This year, the World of Football eSports tournament will be themed around the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023TM.

Submission Guidelines: 

1. Project Description: Each submission should include a brief description of the project, including the problem being addressed, the target audience, and the proposed solution. This will help the judges understand the project and its potential impact.

2. Write-up, Demo Video, or  Functional App/ App Link: A write-up, demo video, or functional app must be submitted that showcases the project's features and functionality.  The demonstration must clearly show the use of Upland 3rd party development tools.If you are submitting a functional app link, please ensure the link is functional before submission.

3. Please Note: Your hackathon submission must consist of original code developed exclusively for the Upland & Antelope Super App  Hackathon, however you can make use of pre-existing open-source projects and ready-to-use assets by modifying them to match your unique idea.

4. Documentation: Documentation should be provided to help the judges understand how to use the project. This will allow the judges to get a better understanding of the user experience and the project's usability.

5. Presentation: Participants should prepare a presentation to showcase their project during the judging process. The presentation should be clear, concise, and visually appealing.

6. Team Information: The team should provide a list of all team members, including their names and email addresses. This will help ensure all team members receive communication about the hackathon.Technical Requirements: Participants should provide a list of the technical requirements needed to run the project. Please ensure your code is functional compiled with  concise documentation on how to run the code.

7. Code of Conduct: Participants should adhere to the code of conduct specified for the hackathon, and submissions should not contain any offensive or harmful content.

What is the Upland and EOS Network Foundation?

The Upland and EOS Network Foundation is a 2023 Genesis Week competition event that brings together developers, artists, blockchain enthusiasts, and gamers to build Web3 games and experiences for the Upland metaverse.

What is the mission of the Hackathon?

The mission of the Upland Super App Hackathon is to empower participants to create games and experiences that are truly unique, immersive, and community-driven, utilizing Web3 gaming to transform the way we play, interact, and socialize.

When is the Hackathon taking place? 

The hackathon is set to kick off on March 22, 2023, with a launch at GDC, followed by a submission deadline on May 26, 2023. The finalist presentations and awards show will be held on June 9, 2023.

Who can participate in the Upland and EOS Network Foundation? 

Anyone can participate in the hackathon, regardless of skill level or prior blockchain development experience.

What are the available development tracks for participants to choose from?

There are two development tracks to choose from: The FIFA Women’s World Cup Track and The Innovation Track.

What are the prizes for the Hackathon? 

The prizes for the hackathon include a Grand Prize of $10,000 USD and a post-hackathon incubator, as well as a Runner Up prize of $5,000 USD and a post-hackathon incubator.

What are the submission guidelines for the Upland and EOS Network Foundation?

How will submissions be judged?

Submissions will be judged based on the quality of the pitch, quality of the prototype, use of Upland 3rd Party Developer Tools and Services, team composition and skills diversity, business feasibility, fulfillment of the mission statement, and adherence to the hackathon's code of conduct.

What constitutes a disqualification? 

Participants may be disqualified for plagiarism, code of conduct violation, missed deadline, technical violation, cheating, inappropriate content, or failure to follow the rules.

What is the code of conduct for the Upland and EOS Network Foundation? 

The code of conduct includes respecting each other, avoiding harassment and discrimination, promoting diversity and inclusion, prioritizing safety, fostering collaboration, respecting intellectual property, adhering to a code of ethics, following rules and guidelines, and facing the consequences of violations.

Can I enter in more than one track?

You may enter in more than one track, however, each app must be distinctively unique from the other.

Do I need to register separately for each app?

Yes, each track requires registration. Please use the form to register and select the appropriate track.

How many users can I have on my team?

Each team can have up to 5 team members.

Do I need to submit a source code?

There will be no source code reviews. You must have a compiled running code for submission and demonstration.

Can I use existing code?

Code submitted to the hackathon must be original and created specifically for Upland, however, using pre-existing open-source projects and ready-made assets are allowed to be incorporated, provided they are customized to suit your distinctive idea.

Does the entire team need to know how to code?

No, not all team participants not need to know how to code in order to compete. Team members can be comprised of developers, designers, entrepreneurs, advisors, etc. We do highly recommend diverse skill sets and knowledge between team members.

Will there be designated support personnel available during Hackathon?

Yes, there will be a designated Hackathon channel available in Upland’s main discord server.

Does my whole team need to apply?

Only one person needs to apply on behalf of the team. The submission form, however, will ask for information about each of your team members.

How are prizes awarded?

The prize will be awarded to the winning team in two installments. The team will receive 50% of the prize money upfront, and the remaining 50% will be awarded after the completion of the project and its official launch following the Hackathon.
